This system looks good doesn’t it? It works reasonably well but I am planning on taking mine back and replacing it with a Panasonic 5100 5.8GHz system. Here’s why:
The look and design are very nice. I really like some of the features, which saves the rating from being a 1 or 2 star. The blinking message received light on the handset is very convenient. All I need to do is look at the handset to know I have a new message. Also nice is the ability to retrieve your messages from the handset, including on the handset speakerphone. The function keys to do this are fairly clearly laid out on the keypad.(Panasonic requires you to memorize the functions.) The big red digital display on the base shows the number of messages clearly and at a glance. The speakerphones on the handsets and the base work quite well. You can enter the number to be dialed and check it before you actually dial the call. That’s nice especially when dialing a 10 digit number. The answering system is easy to use. Finally, the battery life is quite good.
Unfortunately those pros don’t outweigh the cons. The price was a big con but at the time I bought it, it was actually quite reasonable. Still, it was a big $$$ to spend on a cordless phone. The reception and range are pitiful. I cannot go from one end of a 1500 square foot house without encountering crackling, static, and intermittent loss of reception. It also seems to crackle when I’m near my computer equipment and my 2.4GHz D-Link wireless router. It doesn’t seem to interfere with the WiFi but the phone reception is affected. For me, the reception and clarity, or lack thereof, are major cons. Further, the memory for the answering system is stupidly inadequate. (If I recall correctly it’s only 9 minutes total, including your outgoing message.) You can only use the two handsets; no expandability. Initially I thought that two handsets were enough but I now realize that it is foolish to limit yourself to two. You cannot use both handsets at the same time.
As I said, I am returning mine and getting another brand. That’s the bottom line.
